40 million people depend on the Great Lakes for drinking water, but the aging infrastructure and pollution from climate change threaten this vital resource. Federal funding for clean water infrastructure has drastically decreased, disproportionately impacting low-income and minority communities. Pollutants in the Great Lakes become more concentrated over time, posing serious health risks. The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition urges Congress to use stimulus funds for modernizing water infrastructure, protecting public health, and supporting Great Lakes restoration, requiring an investment of $20 billion annually over the next five years.
Tell Congress: Support the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act
A strong federal bill to tackle our mounting plastic pollution crisis needs your support. The Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act (S. 3127 / H.R.6053) that was recently reintroduced by Sen. Merkley and Rep. Huffman would tackle the root causes of plastic pollution by reducing the amount of plastic we produce, use once and throw away, banning polluting chemical recycling, and holding polluters responsible for their negative impacts on our health, climate, and environment.
